Kindergarten-1st Grade
Kelly Meyer
Our classroom theme this year is “Color”, and if you walk down the hall to our room you will see my students’ brightest work displayed on the walls. I believe that creativity and fun are especially vital to learning at this age, and I incorporate as many active learning opportunities as possible. I hope you can visit our little family at the end of the hall very soon!
Creativity
I’m passionate about bringing creativity and music into my classroom. I love using songs to help my students learn things like the Books of the Bible or even math and science facts.
Family
Since I spend each day with my students, I work to ensure that it feels more like a family than simply a group of peers. One of the ways I do this is by greeting each student at the door with a hug, handshake or fist bump and letting them know how glad I am to see them each day.
Workshops
I strive to make my classroom workshop based rather than worksheet focused so that my students have balanced literacy and math models to follow. A typical class for us involves four different centers that the students rotate through to ensure that all types of learners thrive in the classroom.
